La Segunda República Española fue el estado democrático y republicano que existió en España en el período que abarca desde el 14 de abril de 1931, fecha de proclamación de la misma y de la salida de España del rey Alfonso XIII, al 1 de abril de 1939, fecha de la victoria definitiva del bando insurgente en la Guerra Civil Española que siguió al golpe de estado del 17 de julio de 1936.

Durante este periodo se llevaron a cabo diversas reformas, como la agraria, pero que en la mayoría de los casos no cumplieron con las expectativas. A la par, la falta de progreso acrecentó también paulatinamente el malestar del proletariado. Tras múltiples huelgas, levantamientos populares (p.ej. Revolución de Asturias) y cambios de mano en el poder, se produjo un levantamiento por parte de militares descontentos el 17 de julio de 1936 que desembocó en la Guerra Civil Española.
